WFencing Year in Review 2025

Updated: 18 minutes ago

Say goodbye to 2025 and hello to 2026! Where were we, and where are we headed?

2025 was a productive year for WFencing thanks to our members, colleagues, allies, collaborators and officers. It is always humbling to see what took place during the year—and exciting to see what’s possible for next year with your help.

WFencing is deeply grateful to our members, leaders, and supporters—whose engagement, service, belief, and generosity fuel connection, learning, professional development, and the growing impact of our fencing community.

A look back at 2025

In 2025, we

  • held the second WFencing Cleveland Rocks RYC/RJCC at Cleveland State University,

  • hosted social events at the January NAC (Kansas City) and Summer Nationals (Milwaukee),

  • tabled at Junior Olympics and SN '25,

  • presented at the College Conversations session at Summer Nationals,

  • earned a Fencing the Gap - Diverse Coaches Mini-Grant from USA Fencing,

  • hosted our Annual Meeting,

  • elected a new Board, and

  • began our third series of Learning Pods professional development, including international coaches!

What’s next for 2026?

Look for online workshops by WFencing this spring.   These one-hour individual Zoom meetings feature presentation, Q & A, and conversation amongst the group.  This spring WFencing will feature sessions on coaching parafencing, on being and/or supporting the aging athlete, and strip coaching: how to’s and how don’ts.  Additional topics may be in the works as well.  Check out the WFencing website for more details!

Our next large WFencing Summer Camp is currently in the planning stages for 2026. Building on the success of past programs, we are excited to continue expanding these opportunities for athletes and coaches.  The 2024 Athena Project Camp, co-hosted by WFencing and Northwest Fencing Center in Portland, Oregon, was enthusiastically received by both campers and staff. The overwhelmingly positive feedback reinforced the value of combining high-level fencing instruction with a supportive, community-centered environment.

Look soon for an announcement!  Coaches, parents and athletes want to get involved?  Email us now at info@wfencing.org !

WFencing will continue offering tournament experiences as well. After very successful WFencing Cleveland Rocks RYC/RJCC at Cleveland State University this past fall, WFencing plans to host again, expanding our model of relational, community-building, well-run tournaments.

Thank you!

We need -- and appreciate -- you.

We ask that you help us to continue sharing. We are not here to dictate. Perspectives help to broaden empathy, understanding and tolerance so we can all work together for a better fencing community.

We are building on this energy for 2026. Let us know how! We have asked our newsletter subscribers and our members to complete a survey of the WFencing community to help us chart the path.  Please check your email and reply by January 15th. Not yet a member? Please join! You have a voice here.

We are an active 501(c)3. Your donations and membership matters to our growth. Please make WFencing part of your end-of-year donations.  We rely on the generosity of our community to sustain and expand our impact. WFencing wishes all of you a Happy New Year, and looks forward to seeing many of you at the 2026 February NAC in Cincinnati!
